Kateri O'Leary  - Books 1, 2 and 3

Kateri O'Leary and the Computer Mouse

Picture

When a fortune teller predicts change, eleven-year-old Kateri is not surprised. She's already grappling with a new home, a new school, and a bully named Clive. As her best friend back home replaces her with a newcomer, the timeline ticks on a school project and Clive pushes her to the breaking point.
What else could possibly go wrong?!?
A Review by Caroline Woodward, author of Singing Away the Dark, The Village Of Many Hats and A West Coast Summer for children, and other books for adults.

"They say it takes a village...but young Kateri (rhymes with) O'Leary wishes it wasn't one called Haven Harbour, far from her friends in the big city. In Shirley Martin's playful hands, a diverse cast of characters and a sweetly mischievous plot are kept rolling with a runaway mouse leading the way to understanding and acceptance at last.
A delightful and insightful story for 8-12 year olds."

Kateri O'Leary is finally ready for the Show Dog                                 ring, despite a friendship fiasco, money troubles
                  and a bully named Clive.
But does her rescue dog, Belle, have a different plan?!?
A Review by Joanna Streetly, author of Wild Fierce Life:
Dangerous Moments on the Outer Coast

"This entertaining story for 8-12 year olds features a lovable and feisty redhead whose freckled Irish charm and
hair-brained Irish Setter keep you turning pages. This is the second book in the series, in which Kateri comes up against teachers, bullies and even her friends, culminating with a hilarious dog show at the end.
I kept finishing a chapter and thinking "I'll just read one more..."

Shirley Martin has created a memorable character, one that kids everywhere will relate to."

Kateri O'Leary goes to Creativity Camp
Picture

As Kateri struggles to learn to play the bassoon, everyone's
a
critic...even her rescue dog Belle. Will she improve
enough to win the Talent Show? Not if the class bully,
Clive, has anything to do with it!!
A Review by Erin Linn McMullan, author of Northern Medicine
and Wolf and the Bear, a true adventure story:

"Music may be more heart than mastery, but can the effervescent Kateri O'Leary coax magic out of a
second-hand bassoon? With a little help from family and friends, she may even win over grumpy Mr. Adagio,
and land a coveted spot at Creativity Camp.
Author Shirley Martin discovers the grace notes in all Haven Harbour's characters - even archnemesis Clive."

Design Details

The Kateri O'Leary books feature whimsical black and white illustrations by the talented
artist Helena Crevel, and the book covers showcase her vibrant art.
I was delighted that Helena agreed to illustrate these books, as I was so thrilled
with the artwork she did for my Binoculars picture book.

The book cover designs are by local graphic artist Barbara Schramm. Barbara has now designed
five covers for me, and I hope she'll take on my next one!! When she sends me cover proposals,
my difficulty is in finalizing my choice, as she gives me such tantalizingly creative options.

Local author Alexandra Amor formatted my Kateri books with professional precision, and
generously shared her considerable knowledge about the POD world of publishing.
